Hotel Assets Group, LLC, as sole exclusive agent, is pleased to offer the fee simple interest in the St. James Hotel (hereinafter “Property,” or “Hotel”), a select service hotel located in Selma, Alabama.
The St. James Hotel is located in the center of Selma’s historic downtown district on the banks of the Alabama River within walking distance to the Historic Riverfront Park. Selma is home to the largest contiguous historic district in the State of Alabama with strong ties to the Civil War, and played a prominent roll in the Civil Rights Movement that forever changed the Nation. Selma is home to various historical attractions such as The Battle of Selma and the Battle of Ebenezer Church, Cahaba (Castle Morgan) Civil War Prison, Edmund Pettus Bridge, Vice President Rufus King’s Grave, Martin Luther King Jr. Street Historic Walking Tours, National Voting Rights Museum, Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, Sturdivant Hall and Wilson’s Raid through Alabama and Georgia, to name a few. The Edmund Pettus Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement and is located a block from the Property; as well as The Old Depot Museum is four blocks from the Hotel and exhibits artifacts and memorabilia depicting Selma’s history. The Riverfront Park is a large part of the revitalization of downtown Selma. The development plan was proposed in 2008 and has been undergoing construction in phases. A one-million-dollar amphitheater is the most recent addition to the park and has held events such as Riverfront Park Music and Arts Festival and Spring Super Jam Concert. The city of Selma is planning its first phase of a three-phase project to construct a river walk extending from the Old Bridge Tenders House to Riverfront Park. The river walk is expected to provide additional activity for residences and to contribute to Selma’s tourism. The river walk is also considered a stepping-stone for many projects with hopes that one day it will extend down to the marina.
Selma currently attracts large volumes of tourists due to the existing historical and cultural attractions, especially related to the city’s prominence in the Civil Rights Movement in America. With Selma’s historical significance in the Civil War every April visitors and tour groups gather in Selma for the annual Battle of Selma Reenactment weekend and living history tours. Additionally, The Grand Military Ball takes place at Sturdivant Hall in downtown every year.
